Tango Saturdays at Studio Gracia - progressive series
19 Heron Street, San Francisco.
TANGO LEVEL I: 10 - 11 am
TANGO LEVEL II: 11 am - 12 pm
TANGO LEVEL III: 12 pm - 1 pm
Argentine tango classes on Saturdays mornings are progressive. No partner necessary. Best time to sign up for the series is the first Saturday of each month. For students to be accept in level II & III has to have instructors approval.
$12 per class.
$40 per series per person: a series consist of one hour class every Saturday (if there is a fifth Saturday of the month, the price will be $50, an extra $10 will apply).
$72 per series per person: this series consist of two hours classes every Saturday (if there is a fifth Saturday of the month, the price will be $90, an extra $18 will apply).

BASICS and FOUNDATION
No dance experience required. Starting off from square one, you will develop a strong foundation and master all of the basic tango moves: walking, embrace, good tango posure, axis (balance), and navigation skills (floor craft). Thanks to Ken's special teaching methods, you'll learn to improvise from the very beginning. After completing the first level lesson, you'll be ready to enjoy a Sunday night milonga (Argentine tango dance party). NOTE: special support for beginners at parties. Ken is always available to help and support you.

CLOSE EMBRACE Technique
(A continuation of Level 1) -- working on the tango foundation. Emphasis will be on turning basics and the 8 count turning method, right and left.

Requirments: 3 to 6 months of Level I.

 

OPEN EMBRACE
Focus in this class: beautiful, intricate, spectaular, and extremely romantic tango steps. This is a chance to do the fun steps that you usually you don't get to study. Level III will have a wide range of vocabulary from intricate, close embrace steps to wild and crazy, performance steps -- and everything inbetween.

Requirements: a good foundation and an audition is required to get into the class.



" Tango Argentino Spring 2012 "

DANC 161 Tango Argentino (.5 or 1)
Pass/No Pass or letter grade option. Minimum of 24 to 48 lab hours plus eight to 16 hours by arrangement per term.
Description: Designed to introduce students to the essence of Argentine Tango (the dance of love) as well as basic improvisational skills. Viewing tango as a language, students will develop musically and focus on the connection between partners so that they will be able to dance confidently in social settings anywhere in the world. (To increase competency, may be taken four times for a maximum of 4 units.) (AA, CSU, UC: limit 4 units*)

Students will learn more advanced steps which are recognizable from professional tango productions. Tango students will be introduced to Milonga, an Argentine dance which is the precursor to the tango. Viewing tango and Milonga as a language, students will develop musicality and focus on the connection between partners in order to dance confidently in social settings. May be repeated for credit a maximum of three times. Transfer credit: UC; CSU (E2).

DANC 152 CUBAN ROOTS OF SALSA (.5 or 1)
(Pass/No Pass or letter grade. )
A minimum of 24 or 48 class hours.
Introduction to the fundamentals of Cuban popular dances, including Danzon, Son, Cha Cha Cha, Son Montuno, and Salsa Cubana. With African and European influences, these dances are the conscience of modern day Salsa. Because of these roots, students will develop an authentic base that will serve as a foundation for all Latin social dances. May be repeated for credit a maximum of three times. Transfer credit: CSU (E2).

DANC 260 TANGO TEACHER TRAINING
Prereq: Successful completion of DANC 162, or equivalent.
Designed to prepare intermediate and advanced tango students to become tango teachers.
Under supervision, the student teachers learn to teach beginning dancers the art of Argentine Tango while developing their own skills.
Guidance is provided for students seeking employment as tango teachers. Transfer credit: CSU.
