" Cuban Roots of Salsa Spring 2015 "

DANC 152 CUBAN ROOTS OF SALSA (.5 or 1)
DANC 152.1, DANC 152.2, DANC 152.3
(Pass/No Pass or letter grade. )
A minimum of 24 or 48 class hours.
Introduction to the fundamentals of Cuban popular dances, including Danzon, Son, Cha Cha Cha, Son Montuno, and Salsa Cubana. With African and European influences, these dances are the conscience of modern day Salsa. Because of these roots, students will develop an authentic base that will serve as a foundation for all Latin social dances. May be repeated for credit a maximum of three times. Transfer credit: CSU (E2).

" Tango Argentino Spring 2015 "

Tango Argentino: 6:00pm-8:30pm

DANC 161 Tango Argentino (.5 or 1)
Pass/No Pass or letter grade option. Minimum of 24 or 48 lab hours per term.
Description: Designed to introduce students to the essence of Argentine Tango (the dance of love) as well as basic improvisational skills. Viewing tango as a language, students will develop musically and focus on the connection between partners so that they will be able to dance confidently in social settings anywhere in the world. (May be taken four times for a maximum of 4 units.) (AA: Area E4, CSU: Area E2, UC*)

DANC 161, 162, 163, 164 (C) TANGO (.5 or 1)
(Pass/No Pass or letter grade. ) A minimum of 24 or 48 class hours. Prerequisite: DANC 161 or equivalent. Students will learn more advanced steps which are recognizable from professional tango productions. Tango students will be introduced to Milonga, an Argentine dance which is the precursor to the tango. Viewing tango and Milonga as a language, students will develop musicality and focus on the connection between partners in order to dance confidently in social settings. May be repeated for credit a maximum of three times. Transfer credit: UC; CSU (E2).
